The Netherlands made their first appearance at the World Cup final tournament in 1934. After a second appearance in 1938 it took till 1974 before they performed on the highest stage again. Netherlands hold the record for playing the most World Cup finals but unfortunately they could not win any final match. Firstly in the 1974, defeated by West Germany.2^nd in 1978, and lost from Argentina and 3^rd time in 2010,by Spain in World Cups. Netherlands won the European Championship in 1988.In August 2011; the team was ranked number 1 in the FIFA world rankings.

Ukraine played their first match in 1992 after division of the Soviet Union and have faced England on two previous occasions. The first was in May 2000, when they travelled to Wembley to face the Three Lions in a friendly match. England won by 2-0 in this match.

History

The idea for a pan-European football tournament was first proposed by the French footballer   Federation's Henri Delaunay in 1927, but it was not until 1958 that the tournament was started - three years after Delaunay's death.
